I grow my paintings before I paint them.

There is magic in that — in the way gardening and painting turn out to be the same act performed in different mediums. Each season I come to know my plants like old friends, tending them with attention and quiet hope, watching the stunning variety of colors, forms, and creatures that appear from one day to the next. Flowers have always had something to say. I am still learning that language, still finding something new in every bloom, every bee, every season.

What I gather onto canvas hopefully feels like a moment of quiet wonder, set loose from the ordinary — Something alive, fleeting, and worth holding onto.
